In the new L.I., ministers and members of parliament are allowed to drive without a speed limit and use car sirens.

In an effort to change some provisions of the 2012 Road Traffic Regulations, Parliament has laid a Legislative Instrument (L.I).

If the new amendments are approved, Members of Parliament (MPs) and State Ministers will be eligible for privileges that were previously only available to emergency and specialty vehicles.

Since Regulation 74 of LI 2180 has been amended, certain classes of vehicles—such as those driven by Supreme Court justices, members of Parliament, and ministers of state—are now allowed to install sirens or bells as warning devices.

The Road Traffic (Amendment) Bill 2020, which increases the penalties meted out to drivers who cause the death of an unborn child, was approved by Parliament in December 2020.

  1. Members of Parliament (MPs) have introduced private member’s bills before, but this is the first time that the legislature has accepted one.
