Thousands of sanitary pads have been donated to numerous adolescent girls in the Asante Akyem North Municipal of the Ashanti region by the National Service Personnel Association. This donation was made as part of a program called “Empowering the Girl Child, breaking barriers through education and access at the Apostolic Church auditorium Agogo.”
The women commissioner for Asante Akyem North Municipal NASPA, miss Abigail Anyimadu revealed that, she visited many basic schools in the Municipal and discovered that, half of the the girls population do not attend school anytime they are in their menstrual period because they have no one to provide them sanitaries. Hence, today’s program which is operation one girl, one pad.
Furthermore, the president of the Asante Akyem North NASPA in the person of Mr. Seffah Frimpong Daniel has it that, teenage pregnancy has become rampant in the Municipal. And after thorough investigation, they found out that many ladies lack knowledge and things to make their menstrual period hygienic.
Therefore, they seek sponsorship from some stakeholders and philanthropist in Agogo which through their donations, each girl got one pad today.
Finally, the Adesuahene of Agogo traditional council, Nana Frimpong Manson Adakabere also petitioned the government to reduce taxes on sanitary pad to help reduce the risk of adolescent girls using any absorbent when they menstruate because they can’t afford pad.
