The National Democratic Congress 2024 manifesto committee on mining has revealed that the establishment of the Gold Board, a promise made by the party’s flagbearer, will take effect in the first quarter of 2025.
According to Raymond Nana Ebbah, spokesperson for the committee, the Gold Board initiative will be a game-changer, transforming the mining sector into a responsible business.
Nana Ebbah believes that miners across the country will significantly benefit from a comprehensive action plan on mining in the next NDC government.
He stated that the establishment of mining offices in mining areas will commence immediately after the president-elect, John Dramani Mahama, is sworn into office.
The Gold Board will oversee and regulate the mining industry, addressing illegal mining (galamsey) and promoting responsible mining.
The board will issue licenses to miners with local partners, including chiefs, the media, and the Minerals Commission, providing clear geographical boundaries for production.
The initiative aims to collaborate with traditional leaders, local communities, environmental organizations, and industry experts to implement sustainable solutions outlined in the party’s 2024 manifesto.
The Gold Board will provide support services, including concession viability, health and safety, equipment financing, research, and standardization.
Reacting to the NDC’s 56% share of the presidential results secured by John Dramani Mahama, Raymond Nana Ebbah pointed out that the results depict the hope and belief Ghanaians have in the NDC party’s leader.
He assured that the next NDC government will prioritize Ghanaians’ needs by implementing policies to help restore the economy.
