In the parliamentary primary of the ruling New Patriotic Party, which took place on Sunday, July 14, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, a private attorney in the Manhyia South Constituency, has won.
With 376 votes, he defeated the outgoing MP’s brother, Nana Owusu Prempeh, who received 141 votes.
James Owusu received seven votes, while Akwasi Coker Gyambibi received a pitiful two from the other two candidates.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Manhyia South constituency held a primary to choose a new candidate for the upcoming by-election after Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, a member of parliament, was chosen to be the running mate of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Five persons picked had forms to contest when nominations opened, but only four contested on the day.
Being a stronghold of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Manhyia South signifies that the MP will ultimately be chosen by the primary winner.
