Hundreds of NPP supporters from Kabende in Pru East Constituency of the Bono East Region have joined the NDC party, citing disappointment with the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government.
Led by Kofi Tawiah to declare their actions during a mini durbar on Thursday, they expressed frustration over neglected development and job scarcity for graduates who have supported the NPP party for years.
“After winning power, the leadership of the party has failed to our children’s jobs. The most painful of it is that, some of our colleagues who have certificates for various opportunities are unemployed” the leader said.
Addressing the gathering, Kofi Tawiah was optimistic that the NDC’s 24-hour economy plan could be a game changer for the youth to secure jobs after examining both the NDC and NPP manifestos.
Thus, they have defected from NPP to NDC for John Mahama and the NDC PC for Pru East constituency, Mr. Emmanuel Kwaku Boam.
Meanwhile, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate in the area, Emmanuel Kwaku Boam (Lord Boam), has promised opportunities in the next NDC government as he welcomes the defected supporters to the NDC party.
According to him, the disappointed NPP members acknowledged the Akufo-Addo government’s 8-year failure in Kabende and Pru East Constituency, particularly in providing farming inputs and initiatives.
Narrating NDC’s plans for the former NPP members, Lord Boam highlighted the 24-hour economy plan and Farmer Service Centers to boost agriculture if John Mahama is elected as president.
According to him, the Centers would provide fertilizers, farmer inputs, seeds, and services to farmers on credit during the farming season and to be paid back after harvesting and selling of their produce.
Lord Boam said the initiative is targeted at reducing unemployment, and one of the initiatives is the establishment of the Farmer Service Centers to support farmers.
He highlighted his achievements in Pru, citing incomparable achievement in the areas of education, health, infrastructure, and social reliefs despite being in opposition.
This, he believes, these achievements influenced the NPP supporters to defect.
He urged NDC supporters to continue backing the party, now more attractive to opponents.
